Golgotha (2)

At Your cross in thought I stand,

Golgotha, Your place of dread.

How Your pain You did withstand,

crown of thorns upon Your head.

You were hanged upon that cross,

nailed through both Your feet and hands.

How You did not count Your loss,

such love no one comprehends.

Those who hanged You without clothes,

to the burning sun exposed,

while they gambled for Your clothes,

You forgave them, quite composed.

To Your mother and Your friends,

You still spoke encouragement.

For the thief who there repents,

Your salvation permanent.

When Your task on earth was done,

to Your Father gave Your Ghost.

‘t Was Your life the vict’ry won,

serving Him to Your utmost.

At Your cross in thought I stand,

oh, please Lord, do let me live,

for You died there by my hand,

in Your mercy do forgive.

‘t Was for me You suffered pain,

so Your Father could forgive.

Your life was not spent in vain,

with You ever I may live.
