YOU GAVE US HOPE
Christmas Song

1) (all) You gave us hope when You sent your SON,

True hope, perfect hope, pure hope . . .

Into the darkness, Jesus has come,

True hope, perfect hope, pure hope . . .

Let Your hope shine through us, to the nations,

Let your hope - shine through us - to the world

(chorus)

For You - gave to us - when You - sent your Son,

True peace, perfect joy, pure love . . .

A Gift - made for us - when You - sent your Son,

Yes, the babe - born today - is the Lord!

2 ) (men) You gave us joy when You sent your SON,

(ladies) True joy, perfect joy, pure joy . . .

(men) Into the darkness, Jesus has come,

(ladies) True joy, perfect joy, pure joy . . .

Let Your joy shine through us, to the nations,

Let your joy - shine through us - to the world (chorus)

3) (ladies) You gave us peace when You sent your SON,

(men) True peace, perfect peace, pure peace . . .

(ladies) Into the darkness, Jesus has come,

(men) True peace, perfect peace, pure peace . . .

Let Your peace shine through us, to the nations,

Let your peace - shine through us - to the world (chorus)

4) (all) You gave us love when You sent your SON,

True love, perfect love, pure love . . .

Into the darkness, Jesus has come,

True love, perfect love, pure love . . .

Let Your love shine through us, to the nations,

Let your love - shine through us - to the world (chorus)

----------------------------------

(add this second chorus last time only)

And You - gave us hope - when You - sent your Son

True hope - peace and joy - God made man . . .

(a bit slower) For You - gave us hope - when You - sent your Son

King of Kings - Lord of Lords - Christ - is - born!

MS WORD LYRICS

Hear the St. Clair Avenue Baptist Church choir
sing Brian James Wallace's adapted version
of "You Gave Us Hope"

"Over the years I and my choir have been blessed by some of your songs,
and have used them in our worship. I am also a composer
and over many years have written many songs for my choir - to God be the Glory -
and have not sought for material benefit from them.

We've used a number of New Hope Music songs in the past:
"He Shall Be Called"... 'The Baby Of Bethlehem' is a personal favourite...

My choir sang your wonderful song, "You Gave Us Hope" in our Christmas Morning service
last year (2008) and I am attaching an MP3 of it for your interest...
I took the liberty (forgive me!!) of slightly changing the harmonies and
adding a couple of extra lines here and there - but, it IS your song!
The backup band (basically me on keyboard and one of the kids from
the Sunday School on drums) is a little, ummm...well, let's just say that
we're not ready to tour, just yet! But the choir sang their hearts out -
they are mostly over 60 years old (picture attached) and I've led them for the last
30 years at my church...which makes me...well...let's just say I am in my
late 50's! Quite a journey we've had over that time...as I started out in my twenties as
a temporary replacement for the retired choirmaster...and just...stayed!
So, some of the choir members that are now retirement age, I've know since THEIR 30's and 40's...
God is great...He led me there...and I've prayerfully tried to do His will over the years.

Last year was our church's 100th anniversary (St. Clair Avenue Baptist Church - Toronto),
and we celebrated with a LOT of music!

We have a 1920's pipe organ which I play (sparingly) for some hymns, but usually use my trusty Yamaha PSR-2000 for the rest of the music and the P&W...

I wrote a song called 'Come To The Manger' (Adrian Vereeulen-Miller has one, I see, too!) for my choir for last Christmas...
I guess the themes for Christmas songs are often similar and therefore titles can be as well!...

Please keep up the wonderful work. Many, many people have enjoyed
and used your wonderful songs to further the work of Christ -
and I know that we look forward to trying out new songs of yours in the future...

As for me, I also continue to compose (over 500 songs and choruses, myself!)
Most don't see the light of day outside my church although I have had some sung
at revivals and as far away as India, Russia and Africa. Some of my shorter choruses
and songs are on the FreePraiseAndWorship site - here:

http://freepraiseandworship.org/cgi-bin/files/list/7739.html

God bless, and I hope we can keep in touch...
