Thank You Father, That In Mercy

Thank You, Father, that in mercy, Thou revealed Thyself to me;

Though at first in fear of judgement, From Thy face I sought to flee.

Thou who filleth Earth and Heaven, Gave no place of rest to me;

Thy sharp eyes were still upon me, I could find no peace with Thee.

Then I knew that my condition, Was the cause of all my grief;

I was found to be a sinner, I could work no good toward Thee;

Could I as a fountain flowing, Bring forth waters foul and sweet?

No, but only waters bitter, Issued from my heart, unclean.

Oh, how helpless my condition, Heaven’s door was closed to me;

Hell’s wide gates were fully open, As my lot eternally.

Where is hope for such a sinner? Where deliverance for me?

From my heart a cry was lifted, Lord, be merciful to me.

Oh, how careful Thou dost listen, In this land of sin and woe,

For the faintest bleat of anguish, From the sheep which left Thy fold.

Now my cry was heard in Heaven, Thou didst rouse Thyself for me;

And in furious, bloody battle, Thou didst crush mine enemy.

As with rushing ocean waters, All my sins Thou washed away,

By the sprinkling blood of Jesus, I am pure, and cleansed for aye.

From the brink of hell Thou drew me, Into Heaven’s glorious realm;

Bands of sin and death Thou sundered, From my heart poured praise and song.

Now I journey to my Homeland, Not by sight, but faith in Thee,

Keepeth me firm in Thy promise, Of Thy faithfulness to me.

Though I see my many failures, Greater is Thy grace toward me;

Through the keeping of Thy Spirit, I am Thine eternally.
